Dental Crowns
Statesville, NC

Dental crown display from Jon C. Packman DDS
At Jon C. Packman DDS, we’re pleased to help strengthen your tooth or improve its shape. Dental crowns are mostly used for worn or broken teeth, or teeth partially damaged by decay.

When teeth are damaged by decay or trauma, restoring them immediately is critical to oral health. Teeth can’t generate tissue like skin, so healing is not possible for damaged teeth. Therefore, treating dental disease and damage requires getting rid of the infection and keeping the remaining tooth structure healthy.

With our innovative dental crowns and dental bridges techniques, we’ve helped many people restore and preserve their teeth faster than before. These natural-looking, strong artificial teeth can restore health, comfort, and balance to a weakened smile.

Crown Types

Our dentist will suggest the right crown for your needs depending on the structure of your tooth and chewing placement or implant that needs protection. We have three kinds of crowns at our office, each with its qualities and characteristics.

Full porcelain: This type of crown is strong, stable, attractive, and ultra-resistant to wear. Since it doesn’t contain metal, it’s highly biocompatible. A porcelain crown offers the best color match to your natural teeth and is a great option for front teeth. Due to the aesthetic quality of porcelain crowns, our dentists have an in-depth knowledge of CEREC technology.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal: This dental crown provides the advantages of natural color of the surface that looks like your other teeth and the stability of a metal structure.

While there various benefits to choosing this kind of crown, it involves removing more structure of the tooth than other dental crowns. As such, there’s a greater risk of discomfort during the procedure.

Full metal: Metal provides strength and durability. A metal crown might be suitable for back teeth as the most intense biting, and chewing takes place here. A metal crown won’t easily chip or break. Also, it needs minimal elimination of tooth structure.

A high-value metal crown such as gold provides biocompatibility. A low-value metal crown is usually the cheapest option, but it lacks biocompatibility. What more is that it may cause discoloration of the gumline or allergic reactions.

How Long Does it Take to Fit a Dental Crown?

It would help if you came to our office at least twice to have your dental crown fitted. On your first visit, we’ll sort out the decay, clean your tooth and shape it, and fit in a temporary crown. We’ll remove the temporary crown on your second visit and fit in the final crown. After the last crown is securely in place, you’ll have a new gorgeous tooth.
